Integration av invandrare

by

Daniel Hiebert, kanadensisk gästprofessor på Malmö Institute for Migration, Welfare and Diversity Studies (MIM).
Annie Duivens, Recruitment Manager, Oyra Rekrytering.
Yacir Persson Chelbat, VD, Diversity Index och grundare av Nätverket Mångkulturella Sverige.

— Daniel Hiebert:

Canada

Purposive – they build the nation on immigrants. Permanent and temporary migrants. Widespread public support.

60% – economic class. Skilled workers (2-3% in Sweden) Passes skill tests.

25% – Family reunification

15% – Refugee and asylum.

33 million people.. Target 250.000 people/year. 300.000 people/year temporarily.

46% of population in Toronto born in another country (28% in Malmö)

– Language gap (speak and understand the language English, French)

– Discounting of foreign credentials. What is your labor market experience in Canada?

Problem – skilled workers don’t get the income they used to get after 10 years. Especially for University degree people. (Down from 1970 – ~80% to 2000 ~50%)

Under 1970-2000 har man svängt från att huvudsakligen ta in Europeer (numera 20%) till att nu ta in folk från mellanöstern, asien och afrika. Kulturella skillnader gör att folk inte får jobb. De förstår inte anställningsfrågorna.

Laissez Faire, lagar mot diskriminering, standard integration, goverment alone – has all failed.

Big companies understand hiring diversity. Small and Medium size business do not have the capacity.

In software engineering there are no professional organisation to stamp out non-swedish speaking people.

Immigrants entrepreenuership – some move there because they want to – they do good. Some because they are desperate – they end up badly since they don’t know the business.

It takes a refugee 7 years to get a job in Sweden. (Decent jobs) In Canada there are a lot of bad/poor jobs = 2 weeks. For a skilled person it’s between 5-10 years to get a decent job.

———– Annie Duivens:

2015 1/3 will have a background/heritage other than Swedish.

60% of the workforce will consist of women and people with foreign backgrounds.

50% of all children in Malmö has at least one parent who was not born in Sweden.  In 2020 this will be in all of Sweden.

85% of all employers in Sweden use their own network to recruit people. 95% of job applicants solely seek jobs that are advertised.

Molded in the US and UK way of working.

It’s difficult to get a job in the US as well.

It’s a very different recruitment processes in Sweden compared to the US. How old are you, do you have children? A lot of emails, not so personal.

Brain drain of third world – medicine from africa. More doctors from Burundi are practicing in Manchester than in Burundi. Very specific to that field only.

—- Yacir Persson Chelbat

People that come to Sweden are not immigrants (not here to live permanently) They live in a no mans land.

Migration to Sweden 101171 persons 2008. 4 of 5 under 40.

Middle east are biggest group of people.

Människor vandra i 7-8 månader för att ta sig till Marocko, för att sen försöka ta sig till Europa.

$20.000 just to get  into Europe.

No diversity, no knowledge = stagnation. Diversity, no knowledge = conflict.  Diversity, knowledge = Creativity and innovation = economical gain.

Job is very important to integration. Push people into work. A person who paid $20.000 to get here is an entrepreneur.

Think longterm.

Swedes avoids conflicts.
